Espen Eiborgs pictorial world slide in the borderline where fantasy merge with reality. He seeks to describe the marginal formation of a notional attainment. The fairyland that becomes a subservient reality is central to his methodical preparation. We are in a world that has a euphoric hunger for the idealized dogma. Eiborgs work mediates an endless appetite for the utopian ideal of mindless beauty. Fornicated impulses are presented to us every day through all channels, 24 hours a day. We have one insatiable desire for happiness, money, power, success and everyone want their 5 minutes in the spotlight. It is an absurd Banquet absorbed instinctively and immediately.
The updated new is fluctuating and the ephemeral old being mauled in a contemporary draconian grinder. One can wonder if Eiborg wants to expose this fiction or if he’s simply pressing us deeper into it. Does this confession have a reality or just paraphrases it, through its idealized appearance, our own adornment in worshiping mass culture? The paintings that are incorporated into this collection meld decades and eras together as explicit moments. Eiborg desires to conduct a nostalgic viewpoint toward popular culture and its visual doctrine. Compared with historic alloy there are references to the conformism of the 50s fused with contemporary responsive fantasies. We are in a moment where inconsistency is an absurd predictability. An unconditional flow of information comes from all sides, and this is the story of how the individual is consumed by this mighty genesis.
Espen Eiborg has developed methods that bring to use an array of techniques. Acrylic and oil paints in variation with oil crayons, spray paint, tar and glue are applied by brush and knife. Nothing is extrinsic to achieve the desired ground of the pictorial surface. With paint and industrial varnish the accentuated contrasts and nuances are highlighted. The treatment provides a striking appearance, often in contrast with thick layers and a distinctive urban streak.
In 2019 he had several exhibitions, some alone, some together with Ari Behn (norwegian writer and painter) and Mikael Persbrandt (swedish actor and painter) in Los Angeles and other cities. Espen Eiborg lately portrayed the players from Real Madrid very succesfully in Pop-Art.
